Things I’m Leaving in 2020

A new year is (finally) upon us.  Woo-whoo!!!  Who besides me is ready to welcome 2021?

Here are three things I’m leaving behind in 2020:

First, I’m saying goodbye to plastic food storage containers.  I started making the switch earlier this year.  I like how easy it is to clean glass containers and that I can put the lids on the top rack of the dishwasher.  I’m all about convenience.  If you are looking to purchase new food storage containers, I highly, highly, highly recommend glass.  Being both dishwasher and microwave safe are a win-win in my book.

The second thing I am leaving behind in 2020 are plastic clothes hangers.  This is another change I started making earlier this year and I am really pleased with the result.  I don’t keep an exceptionally large wardrobe, so it’s not really for space considerations that I made the change from plastic to velvet.

Here’s the skinny on the velvet hangers (besides saving valuable rod space); they keep clothing from slipping off since they are not slick like plastic hangers and the clothes hang at the same level, which can be a much cleaner look than using various types of plastic hangers.  The velvet wrapped hangers run a bit more expensive, but I’ve yet to have one break.  I have found they hold everything from my lightest camisoles to my heaviest coats with no problem.  If the price scares you off, just remember that velvet wrapped hangers are an investment that can pay off quickly – you won’t need to frequently replace plastic hangers that bend under the weight of heavier clothes, and you will recoup some of your closet space due to their slim design.

The third thing I am leaving in 2020 are plastic shopping bags.  I’ll confess, I’ve tried this one before and failed (on more than one occasion).  But I’m feeling good about my chances of success this year.  Besides being terrible for the environment, those plastic shopping bags multiply so darn quickly!  Last month I found some reusable shopping bags at Aldi and so far I have been incredibly consistent in remembering to take them with my when I run errands.  Hanging them on the back door has been the greatest reminder for me to grab them on my way out the door.

So that’s my list of things I am leaving behind in 2020.  Are there things that you are leaving behind in 2020?  Share them in the comments below!
