I am a sucker for a planner. Okay, fine, lots of planners 🤣. The pretty colors, the gorgeous covers, all the possibilities that await the pages inside. Love, love, love it.
But here’s what gets me…if I love planners so much, why am I so terrible at keeping up with them?
I start off strong, but before January even comes to an end, the planner has fallen to the wayside. As a person who literally forgets anything that is not written down, abandoning the planner is not ideal.
When something is critical to remember, I use the calendar on my phone so that I can set a reminder, but even that is not something I particularly like to use, it’s more my failsafe method of ensuring I will do what I need to at the correct date and time.
This year, after another failed attempt with using a planner in January (and again not making it through the entire month), I became smitten with one I found at Target in June. It was a July start, and had all the bells and whistles that I’ve come to find comforting in a planner, while realistically knowing that I’ll never use half of the features inside.
Something was different about this planner, though. I found myself using it every day. Not just during the month of July, but also August, September, October, November, and December. It is without a doubt the bulkiest planner I’ve ever had, and yet, I take it with me everywhere.
It is true that I still don’t use all of the interior features of the planner, but I don’t care about that right now. Even though it’s a seemingly small thing, I am really proud of myself for being consistent with it, remembering that I have it, taking it with me to appointments, and proactively putting information in it.
I have no doubt that taking the time to use the planner made my life a little less stressful. I know I was more on top of my game than I am usually, and that’s a damn good feeling!
